Alternative Event - Perth Hills Run and Lunch in the Swan Valley

Sunday 29th March

A run of about 160km or 100 miles will take us through some interesting and enjoyable driving roads in the hills to the north-east and east of Perth (with some surprises on the way) with a morning tea opportunity at Mundaring, east of Perth, returning via Mundaring Weir, Kalamunda and the historic zig-zag railway alignment down the escarpment from Gooseberry Hill. A fantastic view of the city can be seen from here.

Lunch options have been selected in the Swan Valley which is about half-an-hour away from Rally headquarters.

Total driving time is about 3 hours at a comfortable rate (1hr 30 mins start to morning tea, 1 hour morning tea to lunch and 30 mins lunch to Rally headquarters). Additional time will need to be allocated to morning tea and lunch.

A start at around 0900 from Rally headquarters should see us at lunch between 1200 and 1230.

Suggestions for the day:

• Once within the hills, enjoy the wooded and winding roads encompassing the Peter Brock Memorial site on your way to morning tea at Mundaring.

• Morning tea options are at the Mundaring shopping centre’s Café 5 and Breadwinner Bakehouse, the Dome Café, and Café Mojo. Parking may be limited at the shopping centre, but is abundant in the side streets over Great Eastern Highway in Craig and Jacoby Streets.

• After morning tea there are observation points at Mundaring Weir (the water supply for Wheatbelt and Goldfields towns through to Kalgoorlie) and city views from the zig-zag railway.

• Lunch options are at The Henley Brook or the Mandoon Estate. Given we have the Rally Presentation dinner this night we have selected lunch options which will enable people to choose a light meal if they so desire.

Henley Brook.

We have made a block booking at the Henley Brook and you will be asked when booking for the ‘Hills Drive Event’ if you wish to take up this option. The Henley Brook is a brilliant family pub in the Swan Valley and features local cuisine, quick bites, pizza and bar. Payment for lunch will be made individually on the day. Mandoon Estate

There are two options at the Mandoon Estate. Unfortunately we are not able to make a block booking at this venue. However, it is a lovely location with ample parking and ideal for an enjoyable light lunch.

The Llawn Beer Garden. A lovely shady spot to have a casual meal. A casual ‘walk in’ area with many tables and a lovely lawn area with plenty of space for picnic rugs. This area cannot be booked but normally has plenty of space available.

Homestead brewery. You are able to book tables individually in the restaurant/bar area (you have to arrive on time or your booking may be delayed and you would need to book, say four weeks in advance).

Lighter lunch menus are given on the respective websites. Route instructions will enable you to find the lunch location of your choice and the return route to Rally headquarters. Click to view the video https://youtu.be/7zq5m3u1aWk
